An Early Christmas Gift...

So as I have mentioned many times (if it is not already noticeable) I love everything about Disney! I mostly love the fact that Walt had a true vision that was family orientated! My family is very important to me so that is why this is of importance to me.

My collection of Disney items ranges from Knickknack's that have no monetary value but hold tremendous personal value such as my first ticket to the Magic Kingdom and my first Walt Disney World Cast Member ID to items that do have value monetarily such as my Key to World similar to a key a Mayor would give to someone of importance. I have many, many Disney items worth noting but too time consuming to do so.

This one item is very different! The highlight to my Disney collection arrived about 1 month ago; although it has been in the works for almost a year! My dream piece of Disneyana is a check from the desk of Walter Elias Disney and the Walt Disney Company. After working for the Disney Company for more then 10 years I decided to fulfill my collection and chose this item.

The check is for $12,000.00 for legal services and is signed by Walt himself. It is great to know that Walt actually touched and signed this item and it is now in my collection. I had to have it museum framed which was expensive but well worth the investment! It now hangs above my television where I am able to view it any time I want.

Merry Christmas!

A Dream Come True...

So everybody has one of those dreams that is just that... a DREAM! Some come true and others stay a distant and far off wish that remains with them forever! Well one of my far off dreams came true last month when I was visiting DisneyLand in California. I was allowed to visit Walt Disney's Private Apartment above the Firestation on Main Street, USA!

So here is how it happened! I walked into Guest Relations very confident and holding strong to my ultimate goal. A very nice Cast Member was there of which I was sure after hearing my story I would NEVER get into Walt's apartment. However I told her who I was and where I came from and then explained what one of my "Bucket List" dreams was. She heard my story and then told me she would be right back. When she returned about 5 minutes later she said that due to the significance of the apartment it is never shown anymore except on very rare occasions such as if you are family of Walt's. She explained how the items inside are museum pieces and a very large part of the history of the company not to mention personal items of Walt's. MY DREAM WAS BEING CRUSHED before my eyes and ears!

Then she asked if I was alone which I very promptly answered YES. She then said to go over to the side of the Firestation and put my Disney CM ID on and that a VIP Tour Guide would meet me there to take me on a tour of my Dreams! To this date I cannot remember the wonderful CM that met me there but she was very nice and truly a pleasure to be with for the hour I was with her. After introductions and questions about where I work and what I did for Disney we climbed the stairs behind the Firehouse up to Walt's apartment. The stairs are the same ones he used and are green in color. At the top of the stairs she unlocked the door which was beautiful reddish brown door, very simple but to Walt's liking.

As the door opened I was looking down a small hallway with an Edison player straight in front of me with a coat rack on the left. The carpet was red and floral in color and pattern. The room was very cold. The CM said she was just going to put the heat on as it was off since "no one every goes in here anymore!" She then asked me if I wanted her to tell me everything about the apartment or if I just wanted to look around for myself. I quickly told her that I wanted to be told everything as if I knew nothing about the apartment. I then had to tell her that this was such a dream come true that I would probably cry. I lasted about 30 seconds and then began crying. She said that she was going to love giving this tour because most VIP's who are given the tour do not understand the significance of the apartment and its occupants.

I was shown the Eddisson player on the couch that Walt used to entertain as well as to sleep on. The couch was red in color and very comfortable. I picture of Walt was above his couch. Behind the middle pillow was a cubby that held the original rolls for the player. This was a gift to Lillian from Walt and was an original piece. In another cubby was Walt's pj's and a pillow. The photo shows me sitting on Walt's couch and bed. Other items also were on the ledge of the couch. Adjacent from his couch was Lillian's couch which is identical with a photo on the wall of her as well. In the middle are two chairs, a small table and two foot stools. The table usually holds something special, a Lamp always turned on. Read my other post about this lamp. In the photo I posted you will see this lamp. They moved it due to it being the Christmas season so a small Christmas tree is now on the table. The window that is at the center of the 2 chairs with the table underneath looks out over Main Street, USA. All guests usually see the lamp but now see the tree instead. The lamp which is on the left of my photo is now in another window as you can see and it is still lit.

After viewing the chairs, lamps, carpet, photos, couches, nicknack's and the rest I was shown the phone that Walt would use which was on Lillian's side of the room. I was even given a chance to call someone. Why would I want to call someone? Well the caller ID comes up saying "Walt's Apartment"! From there we went over to Walt's small kitchen which is across from the center window. On the counter was a small sandwich press for making Walt's favorite, Grilled Cheese. It would also serve to heat up another of Walt's favorite, Chili! Across from that was a large porcelain drink bowl with matching mugs. The bowl said "Tom and Jerry". This was Walt's favorite adult beverage the recipe is: 12 egg(s), 1 cup sugar, 1 bottle brandy, Pinch of ground allspice, Pinch of ground cinnamon, Pinch of ground cloves, 1 bottle dark rum, milk, nutmeg. Not my type of drink but OK. The fridge was empty but usually stocked with oranges for Walt's breakfast. above the sink were cabinets for his dishes which were still there along with baby bottles that Walt used to feed his grandchildren!

Turning left we looked at an old Victrola that Walt gave to his wife as a gift. It was original to the apartment. Some items have been removed after Walt's death as the family wanted them but replaced them with replica's. Next we turned slightly right and walked into a very small hall that contained their burrow with a silver dressing set for Lillian. A few things remained hanging on the hooks to our left. From there was the bathroom. This bathroom is special because Walt had it designed for him with 4 shower heads to massage his bad muscles following a polo accident. A piece of cranberry glass sat on the toilet.

Walking out of the bathroom we continued up a few stairs which led to an outside deck that sits right above the guests bathrooms right next to guest relations. Walt was able to entertain guests up there as well as to sit and relax with his family. From there you could see the flag on Main Street, USA as well as to be able to watch all the parades and going on's in the park. Walt's children would also run from there to the Jungle cruise to scare guests and play with them. Walt got many phone calls from managers saying that his children were doing this. The CM and I walked to the privacy fence and looked over. A few guests saw us and pointed with some pictures being taken. Later when I walked out, many guests were standing there taking pictures of us and asking questions. This led to park security having to escort us back into guest relations with me then going back stage and then on stage again in a different area to get away from the guests.

We then entered the apartment again had a few more stories, a few more tears followed by a hug. The CM was so happy that she was able to do this for me that she needed to hug me and told me that she never gave a tour like this before filled with so much emotion and happiness~ One last surprise for me was a pin that she gave to me. I will post a picture of it later but it was a pin of the lamp which actually lights up!

After about an hour in the apartment I made one last tour while touching everything possible, looked out Walt's window, sat on his couch and Lillian's, made a call, took in the sites etc, then the CM made a call to a manager and got permission to take a picture of me sitting on Walt's couch! What a surprise since no photos are allowed to be taken in there! We then left the apartment and back into the park.

It all happened so fast but was truly a dream come true! Thanks Disneyland!

Just another morning at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Here is just another picture of DHS early in the morning without any guests walking around nor CM's. It is so very quiet in the morning!

Candle Light Processional Dec 5th, 2009 performing Hallelujah

I just found this on youtube and I am in it as one of the Disney performers in green. I think I am 4 rows up on the left and the second person in. I am the one with what looks like a bald head but really I am just blond.

Knowing the Time to Say Goodbye...

Well last week was not that great of a week for me. After taking care of my first pet Gus-Gus for over 10 years it became evident that he was not doing so well. Gus-Gus was a white looped ear white rabbit that went blind when he was 2 or 3 years old. He was the happiest bunny and used to do these jumps and spins and was just a very happy rabbit. Unfortunately Gus-Gus was the 1st rabbit and saw my 3 other rabbits (Timmy, Scraps and Jaq) die before him and outlasted the other rabbits by about 2 years. I must say though that it was very quick. On Tuesday he was not getting up to get his food or water and at that time I knew what I had to do. the following morning I had to say goodbye and bring him to the vet. The last thing that I could do for him was to let him dye at peace in my arms. The funny thing was that I believe he actually looked me in the eyes and saw me. Soon enough, after the vet gave him the shot he became very relaxed and fell asleep. I miss him but know he crossed the Rainbow Bridge and we will meet again soon. RIP Gus-Gus RIP!

A Sad Day...

Well today is a sad day for me as we say goodbye to another Disney Legend and true "Golden Girl", Rue McClanahan! I can remember meeting Rue while in Disney and speaking with her about the Golden Girls as well as other topics and she was such a sweet and wonderful woman! Always full with tidbits of info and tales to tell she was a true friend and someone I will miss.
Blanche, rest in peace and "Thank you for being a friend"! Now I am going to enjoy a piece of cheesecake to celebrate her life!

My "Disney" Girls!

Ok, I just had to post a picture of my little girls! The tan short-haired one is Figaro or as everyone knows her, Fig. The second cat, the Maine Coon is Stitch. They are the absolute love of my life! Of course Fig is named after the cat in Pinocchio or the name of the cat that Minnie owns. As a baby she was set to be "put down" the day before being adopted and when she came home, I had to bottle feed her every 2 hours. She slept on my shoulder and would move to my chest until she became to heavy. Now, each night she sleeps against my hip no matter what. Stitch was adopted as a baby as well and she loves playing with her older sister. Every night she cries at bedtime because she just wants to play.

Together they are an absolute joy and love! I also had 4 rabbits: Gus-Gus, Jaq, Timmy and Scraps. As of now only Gus-Gus is living and is almost 10 years old! Although he is completely blind, he is very cute and special. I have a freshwater tank with about 10 fish and a salt water tank that has mini seahorses.

Out of all these though, Fig and Stitch are my little girls!

Making the Magic, Does it end the Magic?

Ok, so I get this question very often: Since you work for Disney the "Magic" must be gone, right? Well to answer simply, absolutely, positively, uncatagorically and undeniable NO! I too was worried that once I became a Disney Cast Member, the Magic would die. I mean how could it live? How could you know the secrets behind the Mouse and still have it be the Happiest Place on Earth? Would it be possible?
Now all I can say is that ever since I began working for Disney the Magic has grown! I am sure some people have other cravings and desires for travel to exotic locations for vacations. For me it is Disney. I just want to go to a place that is Home to me. Disney is my home. It is where my Magic lives. Not only do I get to share the magic with others by working for Disney and spreading Pixie Dust but I also get to enjoy it when I too am in the parks as a guest. Many people wonder if they will loss their Happy Place or the Magic once they start working for the Mouse, put that thought behind you because it is not so! I can guarantee that working for Disney will give you a brand new meaning of Magic.

As an example, my sister and myself purchased our 1st Disney Vacation Club ownership at Disney's Beach Club Villa's back around 2002. Following this we decided to purchase a second ownership for my parents 25th wedding anniversary at Disney's Saratoga Springs. Each year my family travels to Disney for at least 10 days to spend quality time together which is fantastic.

As an added bonus my family now not only has myself as a CM but by brother Daniel became a CM about 3 years ago doing the WDWCP (Walt Disney World College Program) working on Disney's Hollywood Studios Tower of Terror. Keep in mind that I also work at the Studios in merchandise over in Endor Vendors and many other carts and stores including the Muppet's. Well this past winter my other brother Damian also became a CM on the WDWCP and low and behold he too was stationed over at the Studios in Outdoor Foods! 3 brothers working in the same park!

So to sum this post up. For those that are interested in working for Disney at whatever age you maybe (since we are all kids at heart in Disney whether working there or playing), you will never lose that Magical Place you remember visiting for the first time. In fact the feelings increase because YOU get to make the magic on some days and on others the magic is for you!

I am more than willing to answer any questions about working for Disney and what it is like so please feel free to ask. I will be open and as honest as I can be! Just know that I have enjoyed every moment of Disney Magic that I have made and received and I am sure you will as well!

Remember to Have a Magical Day!

A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes....

Ok so I know some of you are lucky enough to have a membership to this ultimate club located in the Heart of Disneyland! Since this is blog is just about Disney I will share that one of my biggest Dreams is to either become a member of club 33 or to Dine at the club!
Most won't understand this insatiable desire! Not only is the membership waiting list like a few years long but the price is also very steep! I mean VERY steep! Maybe one day I will meet someone with a membership who will allow me to be a guest of theirs inside of the club or I will hit the lotto and will become a member! Wishful thinking? I think not. Look at what Walt was able to accomplish in his life. This should be nothing! Wish me luck as I continue to pursue one of my ultimate desires! You never know when a Dream will Come True!

Sometimes it is OK to Brag...

Well sometimes you just want people to know certain things about you that others might find interesting or funny you just want to brag. In this case I just want to brag!

Back in 1998 - 2004 I was doing a lot of work for the Walt Disney World College Program (CP). After finishing my first CP in 1998 Disney asked students to help recruit from their individual Universities or Colleges as a way to increase the number of attendees at the Information Session put on by recruiters from Disney. Our tasks were to speak with professors, Deans and HR as well as to give presentation to business classes, student groups as well as to conduct your own information sessions about the WDWCP. I was asked to be a Campus rep for Assumption College, the College that I attended and graduated from.

During the next few years I was asked to travel to more than 50 colleges and Univ. to help recruit in areas that needed extra help or where there happened to be no campus reps. I traveled to presentation in more than 8 states and helped increase numbers in some cases by more than 400%! I was very proud of the work I did as well as the work that others were willing to do for me and for Disney. An example of this would be my sister, Heather, who would attend presentations and help staffing career fair booths as well as doing other tasks. Thanks Heather! I will never forget her help!

To get to my point: One day around 2003 I received a very large package from WDW. After just coming back I thought that maybe I had forgotten something in my resort room and maybe they were mailing it back. Upon opening the package there was a letter from the Director of the WDWCP thanking me for my work and determination to increase overall participation levels as well as for the outstanding dedication to the CP. As I slowly opened the package i came face to face with something I never thought I would ever see let alone touch. I received the coveted Mousecar Award!

These awards are very rarely given out and was first created by Walt Disney himself to honor Cast Members for their individual dedication to the company in Helping to Create the Disney Magic!

Thank you Disney for recognizing me as I am honored to work for this company with such an outstanding devoting to our Guests and all the other outstanding Disney Cast Members!

Christmas Time on the Wonder

Some people have asked what the ship looks like at Christmas Time so I thought I would put a few photos here for all to see.

Enjoy and early Christmas!!

How it all started...

Well as promised I said I would begin telling the story of How it all started for me with my interest in Disney and ending up working for them and where I am with them today.

So back around 1992 I went on my first trip to Disney and fell in love everything Disney. I was 13 at the time and celebrated by birthday down in Florida. This was my first time along with my families first time to Disney. After that I looked forward for our trips to Disney from my home state of Connecticut.
This photo is of me working in merchandise at
Star Tours, one of the many locations I have worked!

Upon completing High School I went to a private catholic college in MA, Assumption College and during my first week I thought I was just terribly home sick but it turned out that my appendix had ruptured and I was taken to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy. I thought that was going to jeopardize my ability to do the Walt Disney World College Program which I knew would be coming to campus later that year to recruit potential candidates. Well after a time of recovery I went back to college and continued my studies.

January came by and one day my roommate came in saying that the Disney people were downstairs in a common area. I quickly got dressed and ran downstairs to meet them. after a long discussion and finding out the day and time of the presentation I was hooked!! Within just 2 days I put together a resume, found the location which was going to be at a different college, discussed this with my family and friends and spoke with college profs. and guidance councilors.

The day finally came and I was quick to prepare everything that I was required to bring, dressed to the T and drove to the location of the presentation. After meeting the recruiters and making myself known, I sat and got comfortable for the 1 1/2 presentation followed by the interview with 3 other people. I was a s nervous as could be but was quickly put to ease by the recruiter. The 3 other people I interviewed with did not seem to be interested in the program and were only concerned with other things like that atmosphere of things and not about the program itself. The recruiter asked the 3 others to leave while I sat there with her for another 15 -20 minutes answering questions and was finally told that I would hear back from them within 4-6 weeks.

Well 4 weeks then 6 then 8 then 12 went by and I heard nothing. I was told that no matter what I would hear from them but was confused as I had not heard a peep. Well finally in the 3 week of May my mother called me to let me know that I had received a package in the mail from Disney. I rushed home as school was over and I was working at the time and opened the packet to find out that I had been accepted to be part of the Summer College Program of 1998 as a Walt Disney World Attractions Cast Member in a brand new Theme of park, Disney's Animal Kingdom! I had 2 weeks to accept, prepare and get to Florida. It turned out that no one found out about whether or not they were accepted until 3 weeks prior to them having to be in Florida.

Stay tuned for the continuation of my adventures with Disney!

Fish Extender Gifts...

In my previous posts I spoke of Fish Extenders and how guests give gifts and surprises to other guests (read my other post for more details). Well I did not have a photo of any of the gifts that I received but I did find this picture of some of the gifts this guest received. In the post it stated that this was only a portion of what the family had received.
On my last cruise, some of the more memorable gifts I received were: lip balm with the logo of the DISForum, a sharpie with the name and date of the cruise, magnets with my user name as well as sticky notes with the same, folders for all of the paper materials you receive on board, a rum cake, nips, a hand-held battery operated game like 20 questions, a Disney frame, bath and body works items along with make-up and a host of other items.
I received so much and some items that I could / would never use (make-up) that I decided to put an entire bag together of items I would not use as well as items that I thought my stateroom Hostess would like, like the Bath and Body Works lotions, candies, toiletry items that she could use instead of having to buy. On the last night of the cruise right before dinner I put the bag on the bed and left for dinner with a note thanking her for everything. Upon returning to the room the bed was turned down and a long note was on the bed thank me so very much for the thoughtful gift I had given to her. She loved the items and it made her feel like a bit more like home since she was not able to get certain items other than at a mall. It was also right before Christmas and she felt like she received a Christmas gift. It made me so happy as well. In addition she left me extra bath products that I love as well as other products that you can only get if your in a suite so it was an added surprise for me!

Fish Extenders?

Ok So what the heck is a Fish Extender (FE)? This is something that is known for on the Disney Cruise Line (DCL). So after hearing about this a lot and wondering what it was my immediate thought was that it was a special fishing pole that you use to fish over the side of your balcony. WRONG!

So by every door, near your cabin room number there is a decorative fish where cabin stewards or other guests might slip a note onto. Well now on every DC a group of people come together and are asigned cabins of individuals they do not know usually. Each cabin places some type of decorative holding item such as a decorative bag, stocking at christmas time, or some other type of hanging item which is hung over the fish this comes the term Fish Extender! Well whatever cabins your are assigned to you either can buy or make gifts to which you place in the assigned FE. Gifts can include sometype of item from your home area such as Maple syrup from Canada or liquer etc..

Well on my last cruise it was the first time I participated and each day I placed items in 10 other FE's I was assigned to. I gave away pens from DVC, candy for kids, postcards from Bar Harbor Maine, and a load of other items. In return I received bags of goodies, a rum cake, bath products from bath and Body works and just a load of items. It was around christmas time so I used a stocking and each time I came back to my stateroom there was a gift! It was the best!

Now that I am preparing to go on the Inagural Cruise of the Disney Dream I have begun planning my FE gifts and as of today I received my first bunch. this time I ordered some gifts from vista print that i designed myself! Im still not done and cannot wait to see whatelse I come up with to give away and what I receive. Oh and the best part, its mostly done secretively! Some place their names and stateroom numbers on the gifts which is also fun to do. I'll be sure to update you!
PS: THis is not my FE but one that I found online to show as an example. Each of the squares is a pocket for people to place gifts and surprises into. This family also loves to decorate their stateroom door! What Fun!!

Finally I am now the owner of a Personal Check signed by Walt Disney on Feb 7th 1962 for legal services in the amount of $12,000.00. Its not in my possession yet but as soon as it is, What a Magical Day it will be! Here is a photo of it. AS soon as I have it from the framers I'll post a new photo!

Home-A-way From Home!!

Well it was a fun trip back home (Disney) with part of the family. Mom, Heather, Daniel, Damian, Hannah and Myself. Not much interesting happened except for visiting the Flower and Garden Fest! We did meet Geir Ness the creator of Geir the Norweign Cologne for men and woman. He remembered me from bringing him around the parks before and gave me bottles of his cologne to both myself and my mother and sister. I think we got almost 10 small bottles of cologne worth about $100 each! Miss them already!
